Referrals

Once an electronic referral is placed, it will be reviewed by the referral management office and assigned to either a military clinic or sent to TRICARE so that you can go to a network civilian specialist.  Referring providers are not to request that a new referral is sent to a particular office or specialist, we can only indicate the medical issues to be addressed in the referral.

Puget Sound Military Appointment Center

If your care can be provided at a military specialty clinic, you will be able to schedule your appointment through the Puget Sound Military Appointment Center.  You may be contacted to schedule, but if not then it is your responsibility to call in order to make the appointment.  Three days after the consult is entered you should be able to call schedule your appointment.

If you are TRICARE Prime or Select and are referred to a TRICARE authorized provider, you will be able to check the status here:

(If you are curious who Health Net Federal Services is, they are the firm which manages the TRICARE West contract awarded in 2016.)

Once your referral is approved, you can view and print your authorization letter on this website featuring contact information for your authorized provider.  This may take up to 7 business days.  Authorization letters are no longer mailed to home addresses unless requested for each referral.

Just because you are assigned to see a particular provider does not mean they are your only option!  If you wish, you can change your referral to another provider of the same specialty as long as they accept TRICARE and provide the services requested in your referral.  Once you have identified the provider you wish to see, call the TRICARE number to switch the referral.

Medicare and Other Insurance

If you have other health Insurance (OHi) or Medicare (with exception of Medicaid), TRICARE is the secondary payer ONLY after a claim has been filed with primary insurance. If you have questions, please contact your local Referral Management Center for assistance.
