Creating a Genesis Portal Account

Step 1...

Gather your materials!  You'll need the following information for the person whose account is being created:

  1. Full Name
  2. Date of Birth
  3. DoD ID Number
  4. Social Security Number
  5. Birthday
  6. If you plan to use the email account that is on file in DEERS, you'll want to have access to that account during the registration process.  It is possible to have the email sent to another location, but that could cause issues later.  So if possible, you are better off using the DEERS address.
  7. You may also need to have access to the phone that is on file in DEERS in order to confirm the identity of the account.

Once you start, you should complete the registration process without delay.  It should take no more than 15-20 minutes.  If you complete it half-way there is a good chance your account will expire!  This may cause issues when you try to create the account later on.  So just plan to finish it in a single sitting.

Step 2...

Go to the DS Logon for MHS Genesis:

https://patientportal.mhsgenesis.health.mil/

Step 3...

Follow the prompts on the website!  The steps are straight forward, just remember to keep going until the end!

Once you start, you should complete the registration process without delay.

Step 4...

After your account is created and you have successfully logged in, you may have to choose the portal website.  Do this by clicking on Websites Accepting DS LOGON, and choosing MHS Genesis Patient Portal.  (Don't worry if you do not see this page.  You may be directly linked to the  patient portal, and if so just skip this step!)

Click past the privacy statement, and you should be in!

Step 5...

Explore!  You can review your record, schedule an appointment, or send a message to your doctor.

Troubleshooting

Having trouble!  Here's some resources you can try:

  • The Health.mil website has a genesis page with some useful links: MHS Genesis (Health.mil)
  • If all else fails, you can attempt to speak to a real live human.  The Defense Manpower Data Center has a phone number: 1-800-538-9552.
